You Are A Son of God

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15).

The real crisis that this world faces is an identity crisis. We don’t know who we are, so we assume all different kinds of identities based on how we are labeled, perceived, and raised by our families, associations and community. What we don’t realize is that all these are actually false identities. No human being can truly define Himself outside of God, because He sits at the very foundation of creation. His identity, His perception of us, His thoughts about us are what really matters.

So, who are we? God never calls us slaves, servants, unworthy, worthless, worms, dirt, scum or wretches. These are all labels we give ourselves because we measure our worth and value by our mistakes and our affinity towards ungodliness. I have seen so many believers in Christ assume an identity based on their mistakes and ungodly desires. We become what we think and do, but it is a false you. The real you is worth God’s life and blood. He gave Himself for you, then He turns around and calls you son/daughter. Believe what God says about you because it is the truth; everything else is a lie, an illussion. Yes, of course we don’t measure up, but no one is born an adult. We have to grow up. Every believer starts as a baby, so there has to be growth, development and transformation.

We must grow into the role and the new identity that Abba has given us. This requires a lifetime of learning. The pews are too overcrowded with spiritual babies who think they know everything. Be careful of the one who knows everything because they know nothing. Paul had awesome conscious experiences in the spiritual realms that he never talked about, yet he said he resolves to know nothing but Christ crucified. Your knowledge, revelation and doctrine will change as you grow up and are able to handle greater responsibilities in Abba’s house. That’s who you really are: a Son/Daughter of the Most High God.

Father, I glorify You because of who You are. I thank You for adopting me into Your family. Please help me to understand who I am in You, and not assume false identities based on lies and
illussions. Teach me to grow up to be a Son, so I can resume greater responsibilities in Your house, in Jesus Name.
